Howdy! Today marks the newest release of HD Diablo 2, originally by /u/TravHatesMe, which adds 1344x700 (formerly 1300x700) resolution. This newest release contains a new launcher, more bug fixes, and a port for 1.13c. In addition, the code is now based on /u/29thFeb's version of the maphack. You can also learn more about the original HD Diablo 2 here.

To enable resolution toggle, simply press 6 on your keyboard, or access the Settings menu ingame to enable HD mode.

Notes: Yes, I am aware that some features may be partially wonky or broken, hence why I have not called it v01.03.05 yet. However, If you want improvements, feel free to leave comments indicating what is broken and what you want to see at some point.

Intro

For the newcomers, here, we released 3 months ago a vanilla version of the HD mod found on resurgence and developped by Mir Drualga and Planqi. Not only this enables two new screen resolutions that are better suited for modern computer screen ratios (1344x700 and 1068x600) but it also handles Maphack injection as one launch the client.

In a nutshell, this uses a modified D2Win.dll file that is used by the game (there is a different one for each version of the client, likely 1.13c or 1.13d). This dll will in turn load another completely new file D2Template.dll that takes care of the rest : it will load D2HD.dll (the HD mod) and BH.dll (the maphack). It is possible to disable either functionality by removing/renaming the corresponding dll or reverting the intial D2Win.dll to completely disable all this thing.

Installation should be simple (more details in first release's post) : Download everything that is there and copy it in your Diablo 2 root folder (where game.exe and diablo II.exe should be). Note that you might want to backup whatever file this would overwrite first. The C++ 2013 redistribuables should no longer be needed but windows users will still need to add DEP exceptions both for game.exe and diablo II.exe and restart computer. If you are playing on v1.13d, use this D2Win.dll instead. Let us know if you experience any issue and we'll be happy to assist you. Please read the first release post, there are many things that were addressed there.

It is recommended that you only use HD on your main window, as it can be resource demanding. Use a separate install for the extra boxes so you don't need to change resolution every game.

I thought there were more than two - besides the Archon attack bug
(which does not seem to occur everytime), the game unpredictably crash-
quits often and I have not been able to narrow the factors down, as it
could happen early in the game, before you even get missile buggies out,
or way late in the game when most units are fully upgraded and everyone
have maxed out their units.

Another problem I have encountered is that, while the Mac version includes
detailed instructions on how to keep your original copy of StarCraft /
BroodWar free from modifications done by Gundam Century, the PC version
did not seem to have it (I did not see it in the Read Me file that came
with the conversion files). Somehow the bug was CARRIED OVER to the
Brood War files installed, and caused the same crash-quits when I am
not playing Gundam Century (the single-player animated menu was changed
to Salamis animation even though you are in Brood War). While not a major
disaster that can't be fixed with a re-install, it does seen wierd how the
issue was address in the Mac patch but not in the PC version - I assumed the
PC patch does not physically modify original Brood Wars files, only to find
out the hard way.

More power to you - it's free and the graphics rule, except I do not know
why the facts I reported warrants this kind of personal attack. Maybe I
should have been more specific on the bugs for feedback's sake, but due
to their inconsistency, I wasn't even sure about the Archon attack bug
in the first place, and was left with the impression that there were more
than 2 bugs. In case you forgot, when you first announced the project, I
was one of the few who publicly expressed excitement and support for your
endeavor.

A dichotomous key is a series of questions which leads to the identification of an item.

A dichotomous key is a method for determining the identity of something (like the name of a butterfly, a plant, a lichen, or a rock) by going through a series of choices that leads the user to the correct name of the item. Dichotomous means 'divided in two parts'.

At each step of the process of using the key, the user is given two choices; each alternative leads to another question until the item is identified. (It's like playing 20 questions.)

For example, a question in a dichotomous key for trees might be something like, 'Are the leaves flat or needle-like?' If the answer was'needle-like,' then the next question might be something like, 'Are the needles in a bunch or are they spread along the branch?' Eventually, when enough questions have been answered, the identity of the tree is revealed.

Classroom Activity:

As a simple example, you can construct a dichotomous key to identify people (or another group of items) in a classroom, using questions based on gender, hair length/color, glasses (or not), clothing color, etc.

Question 1: Is the person male or female?
Question 2: Does the person wear glasses or not?
Question 3: Is the person wearing blue jeans or not?
etc.

The end of each branch of the key should be a person's name.

A dichotomous key will have enough questions to identify each member of the group. To test it, you can identify each person in the group by going through the key and seeing if the right name comes up.

A dichotomous key is guide, sort of like a map of characteristics, to lead the user to the correct identification of the plant. The word dichotomous comes from two Greek words that mean divide in two parts. To make a dichotomous key you will choose physical characteristics that can be used to divide a collection into two parts. Possible physical characteristics to use include plant size, plant shape, leaf shape, stem type, color, and presence of seeds, fruits or flowers. You will continue to divide each group in two until all of the groups have only one member.

How to do it

Step 1: Begin by gathering your plants (or pictures of plants) to be identified. For example: a corn plant, hosta, oak tree and dandelion.

For example, this group of corn, hosta, oak tree and dandelion could be divided by leaf color:

Step 3: After the collection has been divided into two groups, divide the first group (group A) into two more groups based on one characteristic. Record your characteristic and groups. When you form a group with only one plant, name it. The next division in this example is leaf edge:

B. The leaves have a curvy edge. See #3.

Step 4: Continue to identify characteristics and divide groups until all of the plants are named. Be sure to record each division made. When the first group is complete, repeat the steps until all of the plants in the second group (group B) have been named. Your completed key should look so

EchoLink is a computer-based Amateur Radio system distributed free of charge that allows radio amateurs to communicate with other amateur radio operators using Voice over IP (VoIP) technology on the Internet for at least part of the path between them. It was designed by Jonathan Taylor, a radio amateur with call sign K1RFD.

The system allows reliable worldwide connections to be made between radio amateurs, greatly enhancing Amateur Radio’s communications capabilities. In essence it is the same as other VoIP applications (such as Skype), but with the unique addition of the ability to link to an amateur radio station’s transceiver. Thus any low-power handheld amateur radio transceiver which can contact a local EchoLink node (a node is an active EchoLink station with a transceiver attached) can then use the Internet connection of that station to send its transmission via VoIP to any other active EchoLink node, worldwide. No special hardware or software is required to relay a transmission via an EchoLink node.

The Carboniferous Period of the Paleozoic Era began 354 million years ago. It lasted for about 64 million years, until 290 million years ago. The name “Carboniferous” came from the large amounts of carbon-bearing coal that was formed during the period.

In the United States, the Carboniferous is divided into two epochs. The Mississipian Epoch is the older third and the Pennsylvanian Epoch is the more recent two-thirds. A chart or timeline of the Carboniferous and its divisions would look like this:

Approximately two-thirds of all flowering plants are pollinated by insects, and soil and leaf-mold arthropods, which include insects, mites, myriapods, and some crustaceans (pill bugs), play an important role in the formation of humus from decomposed leaf litter and wood. Other arthropods are considered generalists, because they apparently tolerate a wide range of plant chemicals and feed on many different plant species. The association between monarchs and their milkweed (Asciepias) host plants is one of the most thoroughly investigated system of arthropod. One of the largest was the Meganeura. This large ancestor of the dragonfly had a wingspan of 60 to 75 cm. Another large arthropod lived on the floor of the Carboniferous forests. The Arthropleura was a giant millipede that could grow to more than one and a half meters long.

Shifting Continents Create Mountains As Pangea Is Born
The large land masses of Euramerica and Gondwana continued to move toward one another and collide during the Carboniferous Period. Collisions meant some of the land uplifted into mountains.

These mountains had no plants covering them. During rainy seasons huge amounts of surface rock was washed into flood plains and deltas. Eurameica and Gondwana were working to form the large supercontinent Pangea that would be important during the next period of the Paleozoic Era.

Invertebrates Contribute To The Formation of Limestone
In the early part of the Carboniferous Period, the Mississippian Epoch, much of North America was covered by warm, shallow seas. The many animals living in these waters contributed their shells to the formation of limestone. There were so many crinoids living in these waters that they make up a big part of the limestone formation.

The Lophophorata
There were many bryozoans living in the shallow seas of the Carboniferous Period. Bryozoans are filter feeding animals that form colonies or attach to rock surfaces. Brachiopods covered the sea floor. These bi-valves look like clams, but are actually related to the bryozoans. Both are members of the phyla Lophophorata.

The Trilobites
The trilobite was less and less common during the early Carboniferous or Mississippian and was headed for extinction.

The Fish of The Carboniferous

The placoderms, or armored fish, that had ruled the Devonian seas, became extinct with the end of the Devonian period. They were replaced with fish that looked more like our modern fish. Many species of fish and sharks developed during the late Carboniferous.

The Pennsylvanian Epoch
In the middle and late Carboniferous Period, the land was rising up out of the waters. Some of this was because of the land masses moving toward each other and pushing the land upward, but it was also because of the thickening of the Earth’s crust. Two ice sheets over the South Pole also took a large amount of water out of the oceans and the water cycle.

More of the land was exposed to the air at this time. Both plants and animals had to adapt to the changing habitat. Short periods of drought brought on by the glaciers caused mass extinctions of the invertebrates that lived in the shallow seas. The shallow seas became swamps between the ocean and the dry land.
Plants Put The Carbon In Carboniferous
New plants developed in the warm, humid climate and swampy conditions of this period. Large trees covered with bark and huge ferns grew in the middle Carboniferous swamps. The plants gave off so much oxygen that the air had much more oxygen in it. This allowed plants and animals to reach sizes that are not known in today’s atmosphere. When the huge trees and ferns died, they fell into waters that did not have bacteria to help them decompose. These plants formed peat beds. Amphibians And Reptiles of The Carboniferous Period

Land animals became more and more diverse as the land areas grew. Tetrapods were four-legged vertebrates that began to move onto the land in the late Devonian period. During the Carboniferous, more and more species of tetrapods evolved.

Some were early amphibians that began their lives in the water and later moved onto land. Some were early reptiles that developed leathery skin as they moved to the parts of land that were very dry. These early reptiles also developed leathery coverings for their eggs so the insides didn’t dry out while the baby inside developed.

Giant Insects
Insects also grew well in the humid and high-oxygen conditions. One of the largest was the Meganeura. This large ancestor of the dragonfly had a wingspan of 60 to 75 cm. They sometimes had as many as 30 pairs of legs!

The End of The Carboniferous Period

The end of the Carboniferous period is marked by global climate changes due to the glaciers that covered the South Pole. The mass extinctions that mark the end of other geologic periods were not present, yet many species did go extinct during this time. The marine environments were most affected by these climate changes, so the extinctions were mostly invertebrates that spent their lives in the seas. Horn corals, trilobites and some forms of crinoids were on the road to extinction that would come in the next period,

First, you need the number. Your Toyota’s VIN is 17 digits, and it’s printed in a few different locations:

Either on a sticker or a metal tag located on your dashboard. You should be able to see it through the windshield on the driver’s side, way down at the bottom.
On a sticker inside the driver’s door jamb.
On a sticker under the hood (actually stuck to the underside of the hood).

You can also find the VIN etched on your vehicle’s window glass (something a lot of vehicles have), under the spare tire, printed on the engine block, or even stamped in the metal above the vehicle’s rear-wheel (driver’s side). Last (but not least), your insurance card and/or vehicle registration will have your VIN as well.

The first three digits in the VIN correspond to the make, model, and manufacturer.

The fourth digit represents the safety features on the vehicle.

Digits five thru eight represent the vehicle trim level or series, engine, and frequently (but not always) transmission.

The ninth digit is a little like those magnetic strips in paper money: it’s a “check digit” designed to verify the authenticity of the VIN. It’s determined using a mathematical formula that involves the other numbers in the VIN.

Digit 10 represents the year that your particular model of Toyota was introduced, while the eleventh number is a way to determine which factory assembled your vehicle.

Finally, the last six digits numbers used by Toyota to identify the vehicle internally. While these digits are often assumed to indicate when a vehicle was produced (i.e. 000001 would be the first car produced, 000002 would be the second), this is not always the case.

You can now pick up a cheap DCT4 flasher for as little as £50. They will not flash the newer DCT4 phones but they do support:

There are some additional limitations in that up until recently it was not possible to flash the 6310i up to or past software version 5.10. Although some clever chap by the name of X-Shadow has released some patched flash files for the 6310i. He succesfully patched 5.10 and 5.22 MCU flash files so that they can be used with the cheap DCT4 flasher! (very handy)
For all other supported handsets the cheap flasher uses genuine phoenix flash files which can be found easily on the web (see my links section for flash files). This cheap DCT4 flasher does NOT support 7650, 3510i, 3650 or newer!

If you decide to purchase this flasher you will notice that the data cables do not have any battery contacts. This is beacuse the flasher is USB powered and therefore does not require any batteries. (much safer to flash with external power!)

DCT4 Flashing software For cheap flasher

There are a few flashing programs that can be used with the cheap DCT4 Flasher (Non work on XP!!!!!). They all operate in pretty much the same way, I have chosen DCT4 Flasher Pro by Ed 2K for this tutorial (But once you can use this software you can use all the others). Download and unzip the software:

You will have a folder called DCT4v30, open this folder and you will see the following contents

The Fia folder contains the flash loader files that the software requires to iniate erasing/writing to the phone flash memory. Nokia do change the flash chips within newer variants of their handsets. This means that a very new 8310 may require a different flash loader (fia file) than an older 8310. All this means is that from time to time the fia folder will need updating with the latest fia files. I will do my best to keep the above download as upto date as possible with the latest fia files included with the fia folder!!!

Plug your flasher into your parallel port, plug the power cable into the USB port and connect your phone to the data cable. Now run the DCT4v30.exe, you will see the following screen:

If all is well the program will auto detect your DCT4 flasher dongle. You must now select the flash file to be written to the phone. (You probably got a lot of flash files on the CD enclosed with the flasher). First you must select the PPM pack you want to flash, the software will then automatically find the MCU file by itself. (as long as the MCU file is in the same folder as the PPM file).

E.g If you are flashing an 8310 with software version 5.80 you will have a folder containing the following (you may have more PPM files in your folder, I have only one in the shot below). Download macos high sierra hackintosh.

As you can see the above filenames are very similar but it is easy to detect which one is the PPM pack as it has an alphabetic letter on the end. In this example the PPM is pack 'C'. Pack C is normally the European language pack containg English, German, French, Italian, Turkey.....

Anway back to the flashing process. Press the button on the software to select the PPM file.

Continuing with our example we will select the PPM file named nhm75505.80c. The software will then load both the MCU and PPM automatically. If this has been done succesfully you will see the following:

Before we go any further I shall briefly explain the flashing procedure for DCT4 handsets. The flashing process has two stages:
Stage 1 the MCU is written (software package)
Stage 2 the PPM is written (language package)
(It is also possible to flash just the PPM if you only require to change the language pack.)
Now you are ready to press the magic flash button. Press the flash button and when prompted power on the phone. If all is working well the program will start erasing the flash memory. Once the erasing process has been completed the program will begin to write the MCU software. To write the MCU will take about 5 minutes so sit back and watch the numbers tick by!!:-)))
Once the MCU has been written succesfully the phone will display the words:
'Local mode'
and the program will display a message box asking you to power off the phone. What you have to do next is quite important! To turn the phone off it is best to disconnect the phone from the data cable and reconnect it again. The words 'Local mode' shoulld NO LONGER be displayed on the handset. In my experience for many 8310/6510's just disconecting and reconnecting the data cable is not always sufficient as the words 'Local mode' remain displayed. If this is the case simply remove the USB power cable for a second and plug it back in.

When you have succesfully turned the phone off (i.e local mode is not displayed) you must press ok button on the message box window.The program will now ask you to power on the phone for a 2nd time. Press the power on button briefly and the program will begin writing the PPM pack. The PPM pack will only take about one minute to write.
And thats it!! You have succesfully flashed your handset!

Newer 8310/6510's and 6310i's Require Different Fia Files!!!!!

Within the DCT4v30 directory you downloaded above is a folder named fia (as well as DCT4v30.exe). This folder contains a standard collection of fia files. The fia files in this folder will be fine for flashing 90% of all DCT4 handsests. But the very latest 6310i's and 8310/6510's require a different set of Fia files. I have uploaded some new fia files for theses handsets:

Download and unzip the above fia files. Contained within these zip files is a folder also called fia. Copy this new fia folder and its contents and overwrite the existing fia folder (found in the same location as the flashing program DCT4v30.exe).

NB It is a good idea to keep a copy of the standard fia folder, so that you can revert back to it later. (as you will be using the standard fia folder much more than the other fia folders)

Run DCT4v30.exe again and hopefully you will succesfully flash your handset!

Common Problems and Answers

The first common problem is that when people purchase the flasher they copy the DCT4 flasher program, fia files and flash files from the CD supplied with the DCT4 flasher. Now when you copy files from a CD the access properties of the files become Read Only. The flasher cannot use the fia files unless they are Archive .
